About Us
Parker Oak is a family-run business, starting life over 30 years ago, as C L Parker and Sons, providing exceptional joinery and carpentry services across Yorkshire.
Father, Charles founded the firm and his sons, Darren and Simon followed in his footsteps, taking on advanced training and honing their skills. They took on a young apprentice, Spike Ambery Smith, aged 16 and taught him the technical skills and dedicated work ethic to be a master in his craft.
In 2009, the firm became Parker Oak, specialising in traditional oak framed structures, providing a full service from design to completion. Each building we make is proudly constructed using mortise and tenon joints and hand-drawn oak pegs – just the way it’s always been.
In 2025, the time came for the Parkers to hand over the reins to Spike, who had spent 20 years soaking up the family’s skills, creativity and commitment to creating beautiful buildings that stand the test of time. With Darren’s wife, Jo having also passed on her extensive expertise to Spike’s wife, Jess for the administrative side to the business, the firm remains family-run, continuing the legacy of craftsmanship and excellence.
Sourcing and sustainability
Our constant aim is to uphold the age-old traditional methods of timber framing whilst bringing our structures into the modern era. We source our oak from sustainably managed forests, marrying traditional techniques with contemporary materials to create time-tested methods to keep our buildings well above the energy-efficiency expectations set out by building regulations.
We strive to ensure our structures are as efficient and as environmentally friendly as possible as we build a sustainable future.
