This project was somewhat different to most, as Darren Parker is my husband, and the majority of the work was carried out by ourselves over evenings and weekends. Our vision for the barn conversion was to create a rural home where our children could have the freedom to roam as we did at their age.
The building lent itself to being open plan and rather than it fitting our criteria we tried to work with what we were lucky enough to have. We tried to be as sympathetic as possible to the lovely old building and wanted it to look like a barn from both the outside and the inside, which is why the internal timber was crucial. The large window was also installed to retain integrity with what was already there.
Living in the barn is a real privilege, and although we put copious amounts of blood, sweat and tears into it, the final product far exceeded our expectations.
"I would, and do, recommend Parker Oak all the time. Family companies using skills handed down from father to son are a rarity these days. I do hope my son feels drawn to do the same."
